pokemmo breeding guide for beginners

In this simple breeding guide for beginners in PokeMMO, we will go over the important details you need to know when it comes to breeding high IV (+31) Pokemon.

What is Breeding in PokeMMO?

When you want to breed Pokemon in PokeMMO, you give two Pokemon to the daycare NPC in any of the breeding centers in each region. These two Pokemon should be from the same egg group, and they need to be a male and a female (unless one of them is Ditto). Remember, once you give them, you won’t get them back. Then, the daycare man gives you an egg. This egg will eventually hatch into a new Pokemon.

The baby Pokemon will be the same species as the female Pokemon you gave, unless one of the parents is Ditto. If Ditto is one of the parents, the baby will be the species of the non-Ditto parent. The egg has an 80% chance of inheriting the female’s ability. Ability Capsules can be purchased for 35k each from the NPC inside the daycare center.

In PokeMMO, you don’t have to walk around for the egg to hatch. It will hatch after a certain amount of time, even if you’re not moving. But, if you have a Pokemon with Flame Body or Magma Armor ability in the first slot of your party, the egg will hatch faster.

Other things you need to pay attention to when breeding:

  • Using an Everstone on a parent with a desired nature guarantees that the nature will be passed down to the offspring. However, the Everstone and the parents will be consumed in the process.
  • 3 IVs are directly passed down from the parents to the child. The other three IVs are calculated based on the parents’ averages, rounded down.
  • A brace, available for purchase from an NPC at each daycare for 10k each, can be given to a parent to ensure a specific IV is passed down. This counts as one of the three directly inherited IVs for the child.
  • If a Pokemon has two potential abilities, there’s an 80% chance that the mother’s ability will be passed to the offspring.
  • Currently, players can switch a Pokemon’s ability with a consumable item, so ability breeding is not a concern. However, mechanics for abilities may change in the future.

Players can choose the gender of the egg for a fee, which varies based on the species’ gender ratio.

%’s represent chance of being female.

  • Blue = Cost for Male
  • Pink = Cost for Female
Success Rate (Female) Fee Range (in PokeMMO Money)
75% 9,0005,000
50% 5,0005,000
25% 5,0009,000
12.5% 5,000 – 21,000
  • Genderless Pokemon of the same evolution line, like Magnemite and Magneton, can breed together. However, two Dittos still cannot breed with each other.
  • Breeding for Hidden Power is mostly unnecessary, as you can obtain a 6×31 Pokemon with any Hidden Power using typed gems (referred to as mysterious gems).

Shiny breeding is possible in this game. Breeding two regular parents gives normal odds of getting a shiny (1/30,000 with modifiers). You cannot breed a normal Pokemon with a shiny Pokemon. If you breed two shiny Pokemon together, the offspring will also be shiny. The IVs are determined as follows:
– 2 IVs are randomly selected, but can be influenced by Breeding Braces.
– 2 IVs are randomly selected, but they choose a stat (which cannot have been selected by the previous bullet point) and then pick the higher IV between the two parents.
– The remaining 2 IVs are averaged between the two parents.

Shiny Pokemon bred in this way will have a different Original Trainer (OT) determination compared to regular breeding. If the offspring Pokemon is of the same evolution line as your OT shiny, then the offspring will have your OT. For example, if you have a male shiny Charmeleon and breed it with a random OT shiny female Charizard, even though the female parent isn’t your OT, the offspring Charmander will have your OT.

Egg Groups

In PokeMMO, egg groups categorize Pokémon based on compatibility for breeding. Pokémon within the same egg group can breed together, producing eggs that hatch into the species of the female parent. Some Pokémon, like Ditto, are in their own egg group and can breed with nearly any other Pokémon. Understanding egg groups is crucial for successful breeding strategies in the game.

Here are the egg groups:

Monster Reptilian, dragon-like
Water 1 Fish-like, aquatic
Bug Insect-like

PokeMMO Breeding Process Example

We’ll go through the steps of breeding a Scizor with optimal IVs, starting from a Scyther with only one perfect IV with reference utilizing Patrouski’s breeding video. Highly recommend it and you should give it a watch.

To begin, you’ll need a Scyther with a single perfect IV (+31). This will serve as the foundation for the breeding process. The next step is obtaining a suitable breeder. Focus on the Attack and Speed stats.

When you start the breeding process, a screen will pop up. Here, you’ll need to select the two Pokémon you want to breed. On the left and right sides, you’ll find the male and female Pokémon, and in the middle, you’ll see the offspring along with its species.

Next, you’ll require two braces: one for the Ditto holding the Power Bracer and one for the Scyther holding the Power Anklet. This will improve the chances of passing down the desired IVs. Next, look for a Scyther with at least two perfect IVs.

Now, add up the costs. The initial Scyther with 2 perfect IV may cost around $98,000 (subject to change of the market). The breeder Scyther with two matching IVs might be approximately $120,000. The braces will add an extra $20,000. This brings the total to $238,000 spent so far.

For the next breeding process, the desired IVs are Attack and Speed for the Scyther, and Special Defense and HP for the Paras. After this step, you’ll only need to obtain a matching Defense IV for the final breed.

Additionally, remember to pay the extra 5,000 Poke Dollars for a female Pokemon, as it’s crucial for the later stages of the breed.

Upon hatching the Scyther, take note of its nature. Adamant is a very good nature for physical attackers.

To proceed next, you’ll need a male Pokemon from the Bug A group with four perfect IVs, and hope for a favorable nature.

After finding a compatible breeder for $210,000, add this to the total cost. With the braces included, the current expense is $478,000.

Upon completing the breed, consider the nature of the Scyther. In this instance, it wasn’t the desired nature, so the process may need to be repeated.

It’s crucial to understand which IVs are necessary for a specific Pokemon. Breeding for irrelevant stats can be a costly mistake. If you’re unsure, seek advice from experienced players or online communities. Physical attackers need ATK stat while special attackers need SP. ATK stat. Keep that in mind. Most pokemon will need speed.

That concludes the breeding guide for PokeMMO.
